10,000 feet UP at Forbes
Hang gliding video and report from the recent Forbes trip:
Last week's flying was another chapter for the hang-gliding memory book.
I took eight guys out to Forbes, NSW to show them the "next-level" of hang gliding in Australia.
The students learned to tow (and release) their hang gliders behind the Moyes Dragonfly microlight.
Forbes has an international reputation for great cross-country soaring and racing. In fact, it was the site the 1998 World Champs, and will be bidding again for the 2013 Worlds.
Our 6AM starts, and hard work paid off with all of the pilots first learning to aerotow, then later logging some time in true outback thermals.
After releasing from tow at about 2000ft, everyone had a chance to SOAR.. with Pablo reaching 5000ft, Phil 7000ft, and Luke circling up to 10,000ft MSL!
A few of the pilots have now decided to sign-up for the Forbes event in January, and will enter the club-class or sport-class.
Along with towing, and thermaling, the students also had the opportunity to refine their landing skills.
Besides looking after the fledglings, I had a chance to shoot some of the buzz and put together a 3-minute film.
