One of the unreal things about this sport is that every time you fly it's different.  Especially when you fly cross country.

Sometimes you meet some weird and wounderful characters when you land out. I was thinking of a  recent experience just after Easter:

Day 1, Task 1.

With a low base and very overcast sky,   a short 60km down wind task with 1 Turn point was set.  

Shortly after launch the sky started to improve. Sweet Cu's started at 4500ft and climbs to 5500ft were found on course. After a major fark up with my start times I had  a real fun fly to goal.  The sky seemed to really cycle today, maybe due to the percentage of clouded sky/ shadowed ground at the time?? Rohan, Jonas, Adam, John Smith, Nick,Cam had fast times.

Too windy to fly safely today so we hung- out at  the Durand's beautiful home until, On Big Jon's recommendation  we decided to go for a serious walk.  There's a very steep remote Canyon close by and getting to it is just the beginning.

Today we woke up in Manilla and with the strong SSW winds we had Mt Borah to ourselves.

It was quite rough but very doable and after a long Scratch around I got a low save^? that turned into 1000ft/min which took me on a white Knuckle ride to 6000ft. A few climbs later I was over Barrabah and

Easter Friday

A bigger crowd turned up at Gulgong air strip today than the Royal Easter show. And everyone was super pumped! I guess they checked the red hot forecast! The weather looked about as good as you could hope for in April, so it should be a fun 4 days!

This weekend I headed to Stanwell Park where we wished the WWS team pilot and good friends Alex Cuddy (aka Chewbaker) along with Wolfi ( the baby faced assassin)  farewell,  for now  anyway  as they head back to the Northern hemisphere for their summer.  It was all the excuse we needed to  party hard!!

What is it about Mt Wandera that makes it, for me, one of the  coolest  and fun places to fly?

Is it the because before you even get to the launch,  You drive through the Scenic Araluan Valley and Deua National park, hanging with hilarious friends in a excited atmosphere?

Flying cross country from lake George is always great fun!  And even better when you land in Cootamundra! But even better is when you have a bunch of mates to share the sky with!

Sunday had a whole a heap of Hangys rigging up on the Collector launch, (north Lake George). The wind was ESE 20km/h +, Base was 5000 ft/asl and rising,  and there were clouds forming all over. Now that's a recipe for a HELLAVA lot of Fun, and a guarantee of a cross country flight of some description.

Three days in a row of great flying around the valleys of Corryong with friends was a great way to spend the March long weekend!

We left Canberra on the Saturday morning at 08:30 for the 3.5 hr drive south. And after setting up tents and grabbing some lunch we arrived at launch by 13:00.

With clouds forming over Mt Elliot none of us wasted anytime rigging and then running off the beautiful big launch that Elliot has. Its 1800ft/agl, so you get a few chances to find lift, and we all got to cloudbase without any trouble.
