Installing a Hang Gliding Parachute
Here's how to install the High Energy Quantum 330 (QS 330) Parachute into a Moyes Contour Harness with an internal side pocket (awesome harness for novice pilots up to advanced pilots).
Note, that we found the Quantum deployment bag had a handle that was too long as it was most likely made to fit a chest mounted pocket on a Tracer harness. With the assistance of Moyes, we have modified the deployment bag-handles (now 3 inches shorter) and retested and practiced deployments to ensure they come out as easy as possible.
Things you'll need: 2 rubber bands, and a piece of string
The process to install your High Energy parachute into your Contour harness with an internal side mounted pocket is below.
If ever in doubt about anything, you can always consult Moyes, High Energy, or myself.
Unravel bridal from the parachute package. Take off the UV cover (with velcro) from the Contour harness.
Next feed the bridal through the other black cover (WITHOUT velcro), then up through the neoprene sheath unto the carabiner.
Now feed the bridal through the velcro latch on the top of the harness, and into the parachute pocket.
Feed the bridal into the deepest part of the pocket zig-zagging back and forth in a "Z" shape.
Install the parachute with the handle DOWN -After testing, I've found that this will help it come out easier, as it helps lift the parachute up and over the bottom lip that is present on the harness opening.
The handle will go on the outside of the bungees/eyelets that hold the pocket closed. (If ever installing into a Matrix harness, be sure to put the handles on the INSIDE of these bungees/eyelets as the handle acts to split apart the zipper-opening).
Next get the rubber bands in place for later use. Simply put the rubber band through the pin hole as shown. THEN....
Feed the string into the bungee and then into the eyelets. Start on the front bungee (closer to the pilots head).
Put the rubber band in place as soon as you get the first string in. These rubber bands keep a small bit of pressure on the bungees to help secure the parachute in its pocket.d
Next, do the same process for the back bungee and pin.
Then put the UV cover (velcro) on (just below the neoprene). This will cover both the bridal and the harness strap.
Once you have the cover on, then you'll need to move the hang strap in the full range of motion to make sure there's enough slack in the bridal to permit easy movement.
Remember to include "checking your parachute" into your routine pre-flight.
