This latest evolution of the Moyes Litespeed hang gliders line with its higher aspect ratio is combined with changes to the sail design and cut that produce excellent handling characteristics when launching, landing and thermaling.

The Moyes Litespeed RS  is a high performance competition class hang glider. Its high strength carbon fibre crossbar, high leverage variable geometry setup, inboard and outboard aluminum or carbon fibre sprogs make for a race-ready topless? glider. This internal structure is combined with a tight wrinkle-free sail with minimum twist.

Curt's Pro Tip: 

I'll be honest, I have a sweet spot for the various Litespeed models, having flown them around the world in crowded gaggles, lee-side rotor, behind cars and microlights, and to many personal bests. The Litespeed has never let me down since my first LS in 2000. Moyes Gliders have been extremely supportive, like family, to their clients and pilots, ensuring they are flying safe hang gliders that perform.

Notes on the S model vs. the RS Litespeed hang gliders:

Comparing the Moyes S model Litespeed vs. the RS Litespeed:

Basically, the RS is the S's taller/slimmer cousin.  -Or, in techy jargon, the RS is a slightly higher aspect--ratio design.  The S model handles slightly easier, with less span and weight on the tips. The slight handling advantage of the S, gives a slight advantage to the RS on performance (mostly glide ratio). Although pilots who are flying comps, and who are staying current in a topless? glider don't seem to complain about the slight handling difference and often choose the RS.

A reason to possibly choose the S model is that it accommodates different weight ranges. The S model has the size 3 for the featherweights, and size 5 for big/tall. Note, these S models GO! Ok, for Options....You can go pretty crazy with carbon options, really depending on your budget.

Moyes Gliders has created awesome 3 Upgrade Package options, and I recommend COMP Package, which offers the BEST bang-for-your-buck:

  • Carbon Outboard Leading Edges - Rear Section (the section at the tips)
  • Carbon Dive Struts (Sprogs)
  • Zoom Frame with Carbon Speedbar

- The idea it to keep the weight down at the tips, which helps with the light handling / controls. The advantages of the Carbon Bar option is 1) clean through the air 2) ergonomic 3) comfy on the hands.

Keep in mind, the Moyes Boys will be able to provide plenty more Pro Tips at the next flying event/comp. - That's a deal-closer, if you ask me.

Carbon Fibre Outer Leading Edge:

  • Lighter than aluminium by approximately 700 grams
  • Decreasing wing tip inertia, thus improving the maneuverability of the glider

  • Because this weight reduction takes place at the tip of the glider, this option has the most significant reduction in roll inertia of any further change to the glider configuration
