Check the weather for hang gliding conditions in Sydney and Wollongong, NSW.

This page is to assist our clients and local pilots with planning their hang gliding flights at Stanwell Tops, and Sydney area.

Winds required for our local hang gliding sites:

Bald Hill, Stanwell Tops: South to East breeze

TANDEM: about 10 - 25 knots.     SOLO: about 5 knots to 20 knots

Hill 60, Port Kembla: Northeast breeze

TANDEM: about 15-25 knots.       SOLO: about 10 knots to 20 knots

SEABREEZE

An easy-to-read seven day forecast for wind, surf, tide, moon, and more. The wind UP at the takeoff site is often about 30% stronger than forecasted. -Winds increase with altitude.  Be sure to drag your cursor over the wind-arrows to get the forecasted velocity.

BOM COASTAL WATERS

A straight-forward four-day coastal waters forecast from the Bureau of Meterology. We look at both "Sydney Coastal Waters" & "Port Hacking to Ulladulla"

BELLAMBI POINT

The weather station about 10 kilometers south of Stanwell Park and five kilometers north of the Hill 60 hang gliding site in Port Kembla.  We often monitor this local site with our i-phones for better short-term forecasts at Stanwell Tops.

STANWELL TOPS

The live weather station at the Stanwell Tops hang gliding site.  If you can't be there, it's the next best thing.

RADAR

Check for rain or storm cells in the region before you launch. We regularly use our i-phones for this service.
